A time of celebration and thanksgiving as we give thanks for our state’s resource of Seafood. It is also a time when we pay tribute to those who bring the seafood to the nation’s tables and to those who have lost their lives on the water making their living. More than 30 boats participate in the ceremony representing the Crystal Coast and neighboring counties. The Morehead City State Port hosts this celebration of the waterman’s heritage at the pier’s edge. Free and Open to the public.
The North Carolina Seafood Festival has hosted a Blessing of the Fleet in partnership with the Carteret County Fisherman’s Association at the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City, NC for the past 20 years. A much smaller service was held for 3-4 years before at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. The service is religious, non-denominational and features poetry, readings, special music, a short message and the Blessing of the Fleet Prayer for a bountiful fishing season. The Fleet is comprised of commercial fishing boats from across the state who bring North Carolina seafood to the American public.
The 2017 NCSF Blessing of the Fleet will be held Sunday, October 8th at 10am at the NC State Port, 113 Arendell Street, Morehead City. Access to the site will begin at 9am and the ceremony & boat parade ends by 12 noon. The ceremony will be simulcast by WTKF radio at FM 107.1 for those unable to attend. The primary and long-term sponsor of this event is the Carteret Craven EMC, The North Carolina State Port at Morehead City and WTKF radio. There is no charge for this event.
